Ghost of Korean War

GEDEON Programmes History

Ghost of Korean War

Between 1951 and 1953, nearly 3,500 French «volunteers» went into the heart of the Korean mountains under UN auspices, to fight off the Chinese-Korean invasion in what were truly horrible conditions. Two hundred and sixty-eight of them died, and several were reported missing… Starting in 2019, archaeological excavations undertaken in the DMZ, the demilitarized zone separating South Korea from North Korea, have uncovered remains that belonged to French combatants. Through a field investigation carried out in one of the most secret and forbidden zones on the planet, we will go in search of these missing persons, to discover who they were, why they fought, the attachment which bound them to this distant land and in which circumstances they lost their lives. On the 70th anniversary of the Korean War’s end, the story of these valiant French soldiers emerges from oblivion.
