Erebus, the Ice Volcano

GEDEON Programmes Adventure

Erebus, the Ice Volcano

Jean-Louis Etienne and his team set out on board the Antarctica to explore Mount Erebus, a volcano rising 3794 meters above sea level on Ross Island, Antarctica. This active volcano is one of only two on the planet to contain a lava lake. To achieve their goal, the team faced many challenges: braving the Roaring Forties and Furious Fifties, navigating through the unstable ice floes, Himalayan altitude conditions and extreme cold and winds on Mount Erebus itself, as well as the risk of volcanic eruptions.
