Saint Louis: In the Light of the Sainte-Chapelle

In 2014, to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the birth of Saint Louis, the restoration of the Sainte-Chapelle was finally completed after six years’ work. Some monuments are emblematic of one particular figure, and this is undoubtedly the case for the Sainte-Chapelle. Saint Louis, who was devoutly religious, commissioned the chapel, not only for his personal use but also in preparation for his future canonization, with a representation of himself on the stained glass windows of this architectural gem.
